Aaand we're back. It turns out the end of the world means I'm running a preschool all day every day instead of working on contracts or dicking around with my elf-games. I'd complain more, but I guess I've got it good compared to most at the moment. I hope you guys are all doing alright and hopefully getting in more hobby time than I.
Anyway, I finally unpacked my office and got some 3D modeling time in and here's a big pile of Rocktop:
First we've got a rotation of the top of the pinnacle.
Then a rotation of the pinnacle itself. (sorry about the lack of landscape for context)
And an Ink'n Pain Rotation so we can see the fossilized installation encased in the ancient sandstone.
sorry about the video quality; I was trying to keep the file size down and I've forgotten all the good codecs we used to use back at the studio....
I also modeled the spaces inside the Installation, breaking them up into a Peak, the Core, two Base areas and two fins. Each have their own (usually functional) localized gravity (so the fins are like a series of office towers radiating out from the central core). The squares are 20' which makes these interior areas quite large. They are not hollow, but filled with multiple floors of rooms, machinery, supports and other structures. The core has a central null-g access with an 'atrium' at its centre. Accessible dungeon levels should be three dimensional with multiple sub-levels and few physical or geometric constraints.
Here's the profile view:
and the side view:
you can see how the fins taper at their tips.
Finally the top view gives you a rough idea of the breadth and width possible in your dungeon levels.
Sorry, the default Ink'n Paint render is a little sketchy and not great at picking out topography. I could have spent a week screwing around with the settings, but I really need to move on from this. I'm hoping there's enough here to give people real food for thought as well as illustrating my various ravings? Particularly DangerousPuhson was considering working on one or two of the above-ground structures, but needed to see what they looked like. I can take some still frames of the ruins if that will help.
As I built the core, I started to envision a titanic bio-mechanical Hermit Crab tucked in to that central area. It feeds into the concept of that giant exoskeleton at Arnlaug's Carcass. Like unthinkably huge insectile things lie curled in ancient slumber throughout the land. The carcass at Arnlaug's is Chekhov's gun. So like, changing the flow of the water in the installation activates the mech and sends it trundling towards civilization or something? The mountain that moves in 'The Bull's Run' becomes foreshadowing to this.
